Wrinkle Relaxers
Botox • Dysport • Xeomin
LUMAesthetics is proud to be an approved provider for Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin in the Rochester, NY area.
These three namebrand neuromodulators all work the same: using botulinum toxin as the main ingredient, they prevent muscle contractions in the face (as well as the neck) which helps diminish the appearance and development of fine lines and wrinkles.
Often referred to as an all-encompassing “Botox” (like how people call all tissues ‘Kleenex’, even if they’re not the Kleenex brand!), our injectors will exam your face while they hear your concerns, then dose the Botox (or Dysport or Xeomin) appropriately.
Botox vs. Dysport vs. Xeomin: Which one should I get?
Our providers will discuss with you, but there’s very little difference between the three!
Botox is used to treat the following:
Forehead • 11 lines (between the brows) • Crows Feet
Chin • Neck • Nose • “Lip Flips” for Gummy Smiles
TMJ Pain • Migraines • Excessive Sweating

To achieve the best results possible from your Botox appointment at LUMAesthetics, we recommend following these guidelines:
DO:
• Engage your facial muscles and make expressions afterwards - it sounds counterproductive, we know, but trust us!
• If necessary, take Tylenol for any discomfort or headaches and apply ice.
DONT:
• Overheat yourself to the point of sweating; avoid activities like saunas, hot tubs, and intense workouts for 24 hours.
• Rub the treated area.
• Apply makeup for at least 4 hours after treatment.
• Consume alcohol 24 hours before or after (as it may increase the risk of bruising).

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin FAQs
-
Treatment is very quick! Your provider will go over your medical history, goals, expected cost, and provide education. They will determine accurate dosing based on your info and can discuss future treatment plans. Then we stick some tiny needles in your face!
Our goal is to focus on natural looking results. Your skin will never look “plastic”… you’ll just look refreshed and relaxed.
-
It shouldn’t! We use very small, fine needles. If anything you may feel a small pinch.

Results vary person to person. Results from using Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin typically last 3-4 months. Some people have faster or slower metabolisms, and therefore results made fade quicker or last longer.
Some people find results last longer using one brand over another. As we build our relationship, we can talk more about this and find the timeline and brand of wrinkle relaxer that works best for you!
-
This depends (see FAQ above). Our clients typically see us 3-4 times a year for Botox for continuous efficacy.
-
This comes down to a few factors!
Botox is the most established, most studied brand of the 3 and is the initial standard used for wrinkle relaxers. Dysport and Xeomin are newer options, but still well established and studied.
Some people feel they have longer lasting results and/or quicker effectiveness with one brand over another, but this is not always the case. This could be due to the individual’s response to the proprietary ingredients in each formula, metabolism, medications, or other personal medical reasonings and makeups.
And some people get coupons or discounts for one brand or another, and that’s why they ask for something in particular!
If you have additional questions on which wrinkle relaxer would be best for you, please ask us and we can educate and guide during your appointment.

Due to the nature of aesthetic injectables, where a needle is coming into contact with the skin and surrounding blood vessels, bruising can happen to anyone at any time.
Even with highly qualified injectors and the smallest of needles, bruising can still occur. It is much less common for Botox or Dysport appointments (because the needles we use are so small) compared to filler treatment, but it is still possible.
Any bruising that may occur should be very minimal and should fade in 1-3 days after treatment.
-
YES - Botox has been clinically studied to address these concerns. It does more than help with fine lines and wrinkles!
